Welcome! My name is Tommy Tippetts and this is my website covering my attempt to row the Atlantic Ocean, setting out in January 2012.

Below is my blog where you will be able to keep up to date with all areas of my preparation, from sponsors to securing a boat and all my training to prepare for such a challenge.

Please also take some time to look at why I am doing this row, raising money and awareness for mental health in this country and any small donation you can make will go a long way to improving lives of many people around the UK. Please click below to sponsor me on my row in aid of Mind. I am hoping to raise £25,000 for the charity and any contribution you can make, small or big, would be gratefully received.

So with the Paris marathon now just a month away, we are getting down to the business end of it! I am doing one long training run a week which I have been doing on my Saturdays, increasing the distance in small increments each time. Today I completed an 18 mile training run. Couldn't think of anything much better to be doing than running round  a spring-like West Sussex on a Saturday afternoon! Although I have to say I did find it tough, definitely harder than my 15 miler last weekend. My time today was 2:19 so of course I am really happy with that as my target was 2:20, even though it felt a lot harder than the time would suggest. It was a tough course with a fair amount of hills so obviously that will have added to my time, but of course will help with it being a...

What I am going to do is keep this blog up to date with the programmes that I am working on in the gym. With the marathon only a month away, all my training is now in preparation for that. Obviously marathon training isn't a million miles away from what I want to be doing anyway, increasing stamina and endurance, but you do end up sacrificing some upper body strength. But for anyone wanting to lose a few stubborn kg's, it has been ideal training for that, I am now under 90 kg for the first time in a few years!   Anyway here is the training programme I am on right now, will look to change it in the next week or so with this being my fourth week on it:  ...

Well here we are...

We are finally here! Welcome to my blog. For the next 9 months this will be the place to keep up to date on everything going on as I prepare for this row, something I decided to take on about 18 months ago now. I hope you will find it interesting- you can even subscribe to email updates if you do! From boat prep. and courses to training, everything will appear on here- just on that, many people have asked me how you train for a challenge such as this, I will endeavour to answer that question over the next 9 months! With the Paris Marathon coming up on the 10th April, all my training right now is geared towards running that. I have a target of 3 hrs 30 which right now is looking good, but obviously it is now crunch time with a month to go. Over the next 9 months the aim...
