Welcome! My name is Tommy Tippetts and this is my website covering my attempt to row the Atlantic Ocean, setting out in January 2012.
Below is my blog where you will be able to keep up to date with all areas of my preparation, from sponsors to securing a boat and all my training to prepare for such a challenge.
Please also take some time to look at why I am doing this row, raising money and awareness for mental health in this country and any small donation you can make will go a long way to improving lives of many people around the UK. Please click below to sponsor me on my row in aid of Mind. I am hoping to raise £25,000 for the charity and any contribution you can make, small or big, would be gratefully received.

Well here we are...
We are finally here!
Welcome to my blog. For the next 9 months this will be the place to keep up to date on everything going on as I prepare for this row, something I decided to take on about 18 months ago now. I hope you will find it interesting- you can even subscribe to email updates if you do!
From boat prep. and courses to training, everything will appear on here- just on that, many people have asked me how you train for a challenge such as this, I will endeavour to answer that question over the next 9 months!
With the Paris Marathon coming up on the 10th April, all my training right now is geared towards running that. I have a target of 3 hrs 30 which right now is looking good, but obviously it is now crunch time with a month to go.
Over the next 9 months the aim of this blog is to show how a normal guy like me can go from working in an office in London to standing at the start of a race to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Although I am fortunate enough to be a fit and healthy 21 year old (who probably likes the gym a bit too much!), I am in no different position to anyone else who would want to do the same thing. Hopefully by the end a few more of you will share a similar mentality to me!
The main reason for this row is of course to support the charity Mind and you can read all about them on the website. But as I say, if through reading this blog one or two of you end up challenging yourselves to something similar, then that will also be another great success.
You can also follow me on Twitter (@SoloAtlanticRow) as well as on Facebook.
I will speak to you all soon, no doubt.
