Welcome! My name is Tommy Tippetts and this is my website covering my attempt to row the Atlantic Ocean, setting out in January 2012.

Below is my blog where you will be able to keep up to date with all areas of my preparation, from sponsors to securing a boat and all my training to prepare for such a challenge.

Please also take some time to look at why I am doing this row, raising money and awareness for mental health in this country and any small donation you can make will go a long way to improving lives of many people around the UK. Please click below to sponsor me on my row in aid of Mind. I am hoping to raise £25,000 for the charity and any contribution you can make, small or big, would be gratefully received.

So Friday 7thOctober and the fundraiser dinner has finally come and gone, and what an unbelievable night it was! In all honesty the night was a lot of work to plan and prepare for, especially in the week leading up to it. Whilst I always had more important things to worry about like sorting equipment and getting the boat ready, our projection for the night was over £10k so I was happy putting the work in viewing it as working on a main sponsor for the row. 201 people filled the Mountbatten room in the RAC, Pall Mall and was a huge mix of friends and family along with companies and business contacts there to support the row. The boat was also in the Club for the weekend, a massive asset, so when everyone arrived the first thing they saw was the boat! Getting the boat ready did prove fairly...

in The boat & equipment
The last few days have been really exciting with all that has been happening which is great. It has been a quiet month or so which was really frustrating, but now I hope things are moving forward and will continue to do so! Firstly, I picked up the boat I am going to use for the race yesterday. Formerly ‘Roberto Coin’ of the 2009 Woodvale Atlantic race, she completed her inaugural crossing in that race in 67 days, rowed as a pair by Charlie Marlow and Matthew Mackaness. The guys came 4th in the pairs class and considering the conditions, 67 days is a fantastic time. Much more information can be found on the website and I have put up so photos on the gallery. I can’t wait to get her out on the water and start training and will get some more photos up once that has happened. When...

I took the week or so after the marathon off so I could fully recover. Its now about 10 days later and I am still badly peeling on all the sunburn I got! At least the rest of me is feeling back to normal. I started my training again yesterday although it will be fairly quiet until May when I will be back on a proper programme. The gym have just opened a second location in Marlyebone, underneath the Marlyebone hotel. It's very different from where I am training in Soho- much more what you would expect from a central London gym. Not massive and not aimed at serious endurance training, but a great place to mix things up. One thing it does have though is a couple 15ft ropes to climb up. I am a big supporter of using this kind of thing for training, it really is an all...

Open publication - Free publishing - More atlantic   Things have been moving on with the sponsorship aspects of this project. Alex, who has done all the photography to date, has created the brochure above that I am going to use to approach companies. Although not quite a final draft, it holds all the information that is applicable to a company, should they be interested. I personally thing the brochure looks absolutely awesome, especially as this is the first design idea Alex has ever done! It would be great to hear other thoughts on it, so feel free to comment.       ...

Now that the website is up and going I am obviously now moving on onto to sponsorship aspect of this project that is necessary to get me to the start line. I have written a brochure of sorts that I am going to be sending out which will detail opportunities for companies who sponsor me and where that money will go etc. I will get a copy of that up on here once it is finished... Speaking of sponsorship, I have received a personal donation from a very good family friend, Johnny Nadler, to invest in the boat. A massive thank you to him for such generosity and I hope it will be the start of things to come!...
